FANFILM CORNER PRESENTS: BATMAN vs DARTH VADER

Machinima has released this little piece of internet gold a few days ago. Don’t know how I didn’t catch it till now. It’s definitely fun to watch, even though I know that the story isn’t really meant to be taken serious but I have to admit it’s a little clunky, they could’ve ironed it out a bit more than they did. Besides that, it’s a very cool mashup! Enjoy!

STUMBLE UPON: BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES LIVE-ACTION INTRO

Really quick before I hit the sack. I wanted to share this awesome fan made, live-action version of the BATMAN: TAS intro. Big fan of the series and a big fan of the Fleischer inspired style. One thing I noticed in the very first seconds, there’s a quick static-tracking line the goes up on the old WB logo and distorts a bit… ah good old days of VHS, nostalgia. Enjoy!

The AVGN: Movie & How I Almost Got Involved

Back in March, I finished up my portfolio website (TemplarDigital.com) and sent it out everywhere I could. From local production companies to big ol’ production companies in Los Angeles.

As I was emailing and applying everywhere I remembered that the Angry Video Game Nerd (aka James Rolfe) had posted a video on his website (Cinemassacre.com) giving out contact info for anyone interested in helping out with the production of his first feature length movie, the AVGN: Movie.

I nervously sent out a quick cover letter of sorts and a link to my portfolio site and got a response the following day from Reed Johns in the Art Department. Much to my chagrin it was an unpaid gig to help the art department set up the miniature models and special effects, both durring principle photography and post but I was still very excited to get the opportunity to help out with one of my favorite internet personalities as well as a hero of mine, James being an independent filmmaker and all.

I was warned that it was going to be a solid month (April 1- May 4) of long work days and no pay but plenty of experience. So, I accepted it. Like many of us I’ve been painfully unemployed for the last year, so I had to do some serious number crunching and get all my ducks in a row in order to go out to L.A. on the cheap.

I called a fellow filmmaker/long term friend of mine (Billy D. Mann) who’s been living out there in L.A. since 2006 or so and explained to him my situation. He agreed to let me stay out there for a month free of charge which made everything easier to plan. It turns out that my unemployment check came in late the same week I was suppose to leave for California… needless to say it was a serious wrench thrown into my plans and I was unable to make my way out west for the film shoot.

I was in a slight depression as I was looking forward to it but sometimes these things aren’t meant to be. Maybe I’ll still have an opportunity to help out Cinemassacre in some capacity in the future.

I, like many of The Nerd’s fans, am eagerly awaiting to see the AVGN: Movie. I wish James the best of luck and hope that his first full-length feature is a complete success as well as the beginning of many full-length films directed by him.

Since then I got a interview for an Assistant Video Editor job at EA (Electronic Arts) Tiburon but didn’t land the job. And 2 weeks ago I got a response from a big new-media production company in New York. We’ll see what happens with that.

Here’s his last AVGN: Movie update, enjoy!

Sherman Hemsley Dead at 74

Sherman Hemsley, the man best known for movin’ George Jefferson and his family on up to a deluxe apartment in the sky, died this past Tuesday.

Hemsley passed away at his home in El Paso, Texas. The cause of death appears to be by natural causes and was discovered by his nurse, who thought he was sleeping when she realized something was amiss and called the authorities. He was 74 years old.

Hemsley’s George Jefferson began as a recurring character on Norman Lear’s 1970s sitcom “All in the Family.” Spinoff “The Jeffersons,” starring Hemsley and Isabel Sanford as his wife, “Weezy,” ran from 1975-85. Hemsley was nominated for an Emmy for lead actor in a comedy in 1984. (Sanford died in 2004.)

The Jeffersons ultimately became one of Lear’s most popular shows thanks to Hemsley; and it remains the longest-running sitcom with a predominantly black cast. The show aired for 11 seasons, from 1975-1985.

The actor went on to star in another successful series, Amen, which ran for five seasons, from 1986-1991.

The actor reprised the role of George Jefferson in the mid-’90s on two episodes of “Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” starring Will Smith, and in a 2011 episode of Tyler Perry sitcom “House of Payne.” He also played Jefferson in an uncredited bit in the 1998 feature comedy “Jane Austen’s Mafia.”

Hemsley never married or had any children.

TEMPLAR DIGITAL:
We, here at Templar Digital are deeply saddened for another loss of a great entertainment icon. Our prayers go to Hemsley’s family and friends as they go through this difficult process. Below we also included the links to some of our past posts of Andy Griffith and Ernest Borgnine passings.

Jurassic Park 4 to be released in 2012

A fourth entry in the Jurassic Park franchise has been in various stages of development for quite some time now. While the prospect of the film moving forward seemed to dwindle as time went on, there have been some major developments on the Jurassic Park 4 front as of late.

During last year’s Comic-Con, Steven Spielberg announced that he already worked out the story for “Jurassic Park 4” and was hoping to make the film in two or three years. Then last month, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver were hired to write the script.

Steve got the chance to speak with producer Frank Marshall in anticipation of the release of The Bourne Legacy, and the producer talked a bit about Jurassic Park 4, revealing that they plan on having it in theaters within two years.

He went on to say that it’s definitely a sequel, and even though Spielberg won’t be directing, he’ll be heavily involved in the development. And the reason why Marshall and Spielberg are so interested in the fourth film, is because there’s an opportunity to take advantage of all the technological advancements that have been made in recent years.

“That’s what’s gonna be great about it, technology hass taken a leap now that we can really do some great things,” he said, adding that the dinosaurs won’t all be CGI because practical effects feel more realistic to audiences.

Finding Nemo 2 Announced!!

Andrew Stanton, the man behind the Toy Story series, Monsters, Inc., and Wall-E, has been selected by Disney and Pixar to direct the much-anticipated SEQUEL for his possibly best-known work, Finding Nemo!

According to industry insiders, despite the writer/director’s epic flop with his debut live-action feature, John Carter, Andrew was able to present the studio with a concept for the second installment that was EXTREMELY well-received – so much so, in fact, that if all goes well with this, he’ll get another shot at helming live-action!

Unfortunately, no word yet on what kinds of shenanigans our beloved clownfish and forgetful regal tang will get into, but Victoria Krouse has been hired to pen the screenplay, and the finished product is expected to drop in 2016!

Fans of the animation studio should also know that the studio is still going to produce original movies. After Brave, Pixar is hard at work on three new original projects which will hit screens in the coming years: The Good Dinosaur (directed by Bob Peterson and slated for May 30, 2014); untitled inside the mind project (from Up’s Pete Doctor, with a June 19, 2015release); and an untitled movie about Dia de los muertos (directed by Nemo co-director Lee Unkrich).

Friday the 13th Special – Fan Film Corner: The Nightmare ends on Halloween 2

Now that Comic-Con is in FULL swing and Friday the 13th has dawn upon us, I thought it would be really cool to do a review on a Horror Fan Film featuring 5 of the greatest horror icons in film history. Fan Film Corner presents: “The Nightmare Ends on Halloween 2”.

HAPPY FRIDAY the 13th!!!! everyone from all of us here at Templar Digital

LOWDOWN:

The Nightmare Ends on Halloween II, A direct sequel to the 2004 horror mash up, “The Nightmare Ends on Halloween II” recaps the very last scene of the first film and reveals the outcome of Freddy Krueger’s fate. Will he survive a battle royale against Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Leatherface, or will Pinhead reclaim Freddy’s demonic soul?

REVIEW:

I chose to do the review on the sequel then its predecessor because the sequel had more characters and more intense action while still keeping the horror theme going. Picking up directly where the first one left off, Chris R. Notarile’s eagerly awaited sequel to his much admired original horror short gets right down to stirring brass tacks and delivers exactly what it promises with Freddy Krueger facing off against his formidable peers Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, and Leatherface in a battle for his very soul. Notarile stages the wall-to-wall fast’n’furious fight set pieces with his trademark lean’n’mean skill and brio; it’s a total treat to see these major horror icons vigorously mix it up in an extremely brutal no-holds-barred manner (for example, Freddy kicks Leatherface right where it hurts most). Roberto Lombardi portrays Freddy with a burning rage and vitality that’s impressive and entertaining in equal measure. Of course, Freddy gets to spit out a few choice terse one-liners amid all the fierce butt-stomping (all-time favorite line; Krueger to Jason: “They should have drowned you at birth!”). Hector De La Rosa as Jason, Josh Rothman as Michael Myers, Anthony Palmisano as Leatherface, and Kevin Lennon as Pinhead (the latter is voiced by Notarile with appropriate deep and sinister relish) are all likewise sturdy in their roles.

OVERALL:
Super Kudos are in order for Notarile’s polished cinematography and snappy editing as well as the cool rocking soundtrack. But it’s ultimately the sheer go-for-it verve of the whole enterprise that makes it such a blast to watch. Highly recommended.
