Fan Film Corner: Deadpool: A Typical Tuesday

“Deadpool: A Typical Tuesday” by Bean Dip Productions is This Week’s selection of Fan Film Corner.

LOWDOWN:
Marvel’s popular crimson assassin has been hired to kill a specific target, kill the man, get the cash. The problem is, he’s not the only one who was hired.

REVIEW:

I must say, I went in skeptical and left having enjoyed myself. It very much feels like a fan movie but is surprisingly well done for having not been done by Marvel Studios. The storyline is pretty straight forward. Deadpool has a job to kill someone. Like most Deadpool encounters, he manages to make it as difficult as possible while still being annoying to everyone he encounters.

The fight scenes are where you see the fan styling come out. I didn’t go in expecting major CGI so I was happy with it. Deadpool still used his swords and has his fun with guns. So that kept him true to character.

Ultimately it was the little things that made the movie enjoyable for me. Without ruining what happens, Deadpool still is able to have his thought bubbles. Also, the writing and portrayal of him is a good fan representation of how Deadpool would act and how annoying he’d be to his enemies. I might not of ever mentally pictured him with that high of a voice, I can’t say it didn’t fit but in the end.. it all works out.

OVERALL:
The film catches the essence and feel of the “Merc with a Mouth” perfectly. It’s still a fan movie so it won’t blow you away, however, it is still a fun ride to enjoy and is worth watching.

Game Review: "Slender"

“Slender” is a free indie-developed psychological horror/survival horror video game released in June 2012 for PC and Mac. The game is based on horror creepypasta, the Slender Man.

LOWDOWN:
Lost in the forest, you seek out the lost 8 pages of the manuscript with nothing but a flashlight. Written on these 8 pages are parts of a story of the local internet myth, Slender Man, a man who simply follows and watches you, slowly entrancing you with his stare, driving you to insanity until you can do nothing but stand there and stare yourself to death. Welcome to the world of internet freeware game Slender from Parsec Productions.

Slender Man is an entity that follows the player. He resembles a tall, skinny man dressed in a dark-colored suit with a featureless pale, white face. Slender Man appears far away at first, and proceeds to get closer with every additional note that the player collects. He will also teleport to catch up to the player, and may even fully disappear from view at times. Nowhere is safe, as he can show up anywhere at any time, though he is often found trailing slightly behind the player. As the Slender Man gets nearer, the camera’s recording will start to become distorted. If the Slender Man gets too close, the screen will fade to complete static, the Slender Man’s face will appear on the recording, and the game will end.

REVIEW:
Slender is a short game that is graphically on par with a high school gaming project from 2001, however do not let that deter you. One part Alan Wake, one part atmosphere of Fatal Frame, you are on the edge of your seat as you seek out the manuscripts. This game is entirely built upon the tension it creates as you walk around, there are no attacks, no special moves or fancy cut scenes. Slender relies entirely on your fear. It is just you and the ever watching eyes of the Slender Man. Slender, it is without a doubt, the scariest game I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. Just finishing the brief game’s only task (find all 8 notes) is a marathon of mental perseverance. I wanted to give up on more than one occasion because I was so creeped out. The game is incredibly simple and I think that’s part of its genius. You walk through the woods, abandoned buildings and stranded farm equipment in search of eight notes left behind by somebody. Each note reveals a little bit more about the Slender Man and each note picked up results in an increase in intensity. In terms of audio there’s a sound of your character’s heartbeat, her footsteps, wind blowing through the trees and that’s about it. You’re given a flashlight, no way of defending yourself, and the ability to sprint. The game is set in a first person perspective, making it all the more horrific. Slender does what most horror movies almost never get right: pacing, tension and atmosphere. I don’t want to give anything away because this game relies entirely upon the tension created and the payoffs, but if you shut the light off, turn up the sound and focus you will have a wonderful time.

OVERALL:
the game is free to download and free to play at www.slendergame.com. I would highly recommend anyone who wants to burn an hour or two playing a game to download this as soon as possible.

It is a thing of beauty in terms of creating a feeling without depending on graphics. We are becoming spoiled with great graphics and forgetting that sometimes the best scares come from the things we can’t see.

╬D Recommendation: "The Room"

“The Room” is our ╬D Recommendation of the week, Be Warn…this movie is so bad, its sooo good. We watch it so you don’t have to…but I recommend you should watch it at least once in your life.

LOWDOWN:
An American black comedy about love and passion, betrayal and lies. It depicts the depths of friendship and relationships in one’s life and raises life’s real and most asked question: “Can you ever really trust anyone?…Are you ready to see reflections of your life? A successful banker, Johnny, is madly in love with his fiancé, Lisa, and plans to be married next month. His plans take a horrid turn when he finds the truth about Lisa and the people surrounding him.

REVIEW:
Multiple drop off plots, awful diaolague, Horrific acting, but overal immensly entertaining. A massive bust at a dark drama that is terribly done, so bad that it was advertised as a black comedy when Wiseau never intended or wanted to market it as a black comedy. But really, it’s worth a view.

The Room is amazing! Not because of great acting, a great script, and a great director, but because of how awful it is! Tommy Wiesau wrote, directed, produced, and stars in this big beautiful mess of a movie. It is the ultimate “so bad, its good” movie. Go see for yourself especially with the RIFFTRAX track.

OVERALL: It’s not so much the bad acting, it’s the bizarre script, quirky characters, subplots that are mentioned, then never discussed again, an Incredibly odd and distracting soundtrack, Characters that are never seen again, football being played 3 feet away from each-other, And who can forget the chicken noises? Its a pretty damn hilarious movie, and even if you don’t find it funny, its still undoubtedly 10X more interesting than most films out there today

Sherman Hemsley Dead at 74

Sherman Hemsley, the man best known for movin’ George Jefferson and his family on up to a deluxe apartment in the sky, died this past Tuesday.

Hemsley passed away at his home in El Paso, Texas. The cause of death appears to be by natural causes and was discovered by his nurse, who thought he was sleeping when she realized something was amiss and called the authorities. He was 74 years old.

Hemsley’s George Jefferson began as a recurring character on Norman Lear’s 1970s sitcom “All in the Family.” Spinoff “The Jeffersons,” starring Hemsley and Isabel Sanford as his wife, “Weezy,” ran from 1975-85. Hemsley was nominated for an Emmy for lead actor in a comedy in 1984. (Sanford died in 2004.)

The Jeffersons ultimately became one of Lear’s most popular shows thanks to Hemsley; and it remains the longest-running sitcom with a predominantly black cast. The show aired for 11 seasons, from 1975-1985.

The actor went on to star in another successful series, Amen, which ran for five seasons, from 1986-1991.

The actor reprised the role of George Jefferson in the mid-’90s on two episodes of “Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” starring Will Smith, and in a 2011 episode of Tyler Perry sitcom “House of Payne.” He also played Jefferson in an uncredited bit in the 1998 feature comedy “Jane Austen’s Mafia.”

Hemsley never married or had any children.

TEMPLAR DIGITAL:
We, here at Templar Digital are deeply saddened for another loss of a great entertainment icon. Our prayers go to Hemsley’s family and friends as they go through this difficult process. Below we also included the links to some of our past posts of Andy Griffith and Ernest Borgnine passings.

Christian Bale Visits Survivors & Memorial in Aurora

Christian Bale made a quiet trip to Aurora, Colorado, on Tuesday to visit victims of last week’s tragedy and to meet with medical personnel.

Bale, who was accompanied by his wife, Sibi Blazic, arranged the journey on his own. He contacted the Medical Center of Aurora saying he wanted to come, but asked that the media not be notified (he arrived at the center in an ambulance).

In Los Angeles, Warner Bros. said Bale was not representing the studio.

Aurora Medical Center interim president Bill Voloch told reporters that Bale spent 2 1/2 hours visiting with seven patients, two of whom were transported to the facility from another hospital.

“The patients were really happy to meet Bale. They are obviously big fans of his movies,” Voloch said. “It was good for the patients. We hope it was therapeutic for them, and all the staff really appreciated him coming.”

Bale also spent time with the medical staff who have been treating the vicitms of the shooting inside the Century Aurora 16 multiplex.

Among the patients whom Bale visited was Carey Rottman, who happily tweeted a picture taken of him and the star.

On Friday, Bale issued a brief statement expressing his sympathies to those impacted by the worst mass shooting in the country’s history.

“Words cannot express the horror that I feel,” he said at the time. “I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”

Last week, a Facebook petition urging Bale to visit the victims in Colorado emerged online.
