Yahoo To Create YouTube Competitor?

Back in December you may have heard people on YouTube ranting about having video’s on their channels flagged and restricted due to increasing copyright standards, naturally creating an uproar. Well looks like one company’s mistake is anothers opportunity.

As it stands right now according to Alexa, YouTube is the number 3 site in the entire world, falling behind Google and Facebook. But Yahoo CEO Marissa Meyer is throwing the gauntlet down and stepping up to the video service giant with the intention to create a YouTube competitor. Marissa Meyer used to work at Google so she’s no schlub by any means, she clearly knows what she’s up against.

Though not much is know right now Yahoo is trying to pull some of YouTube’s elite talent away by offering better economic incentives. As Yahoo prepares to go head-to-head with YouTube, this new would-be video service wouldn’t exactly open it’s flood gates to anyone looking to start a channel and start making money off of ad revenues. Looks like they want to lock in some exclusive content creators first, a-la the early years of Youtube and if the site takes off they’ll open it up to everyone.

Yahoo executives have told video-makers and owners that the company can offer them better economics than they’re getting on YouTube, either by improving ad revenue or by offering guaranteed ad rates for their videos, Recode’s report says. Yahoo has offered extensive marketing, even on its home page, as well as allowing video producers the ability to sell advertising along with Yahoo’s sales force.

The way I see is whether you were or weren’t affected by YouTube tightening it’s restrictions this is a good thing. More competition among giant cooperations the better it is for the end-users or consumers. I’m excited to see a company daring to compete in an industry that seems to be pretty much claimed by Google.

I hope Yahoo strikes a nerve with people and opens up more options for those like us, trying to make a name for ourselves and share our content with as many people who want it.

Here’s to competition! May the best service win!

Walking Dead Season 4 Finale is at hand… what are your predictions?

So it’s that time again, another season of the Walking Dead is coming to a close. Which usually means one of two things. No one dies and we’re left holding our genitalia… or Someone dies and the internet goes coocoo-banana-nuts.

I (@CaptxCrunch), am predicting either Glenn or Maggie (maybe both?) will die. If you’ve been listening to our podcast this isn’t news but my thought process is that since the mid-season return, the show has been building up to Maggie and Glenn’s reunion giving the little face-time both characters have had to over emphasize their longing to be together. Specially after Glenn and Maggie’s emotional (and kinda hokey) reunion in last weeks episode.  I feel that the show will pull the proverbial “dick move” and separate them once more but permanently. I could be completely wrong, but that’s my gut feeling. Leave us a comment below and let us know what you’re predictions are and why!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teaser

So Paramount and Nickelodeon has finally released the first teaser for The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Hmmm…. I’m going to hold back judgment for a proper trailer. But I will say this, the Ninja Turtles look better than I expected. Other than that the film is directed by  who isn’t terrible but isn’t all that great either so I hope he’s stepped up his directing game since the headache inducing Wrath of the Titans. Check out the trailer below!

Hercules Trailer is here!

Right when Radical Comics started Hercules was one of there first titles out. I still have my copies and remember enjoying reading them but thankfully it’s been so long that I’ve read them that I don’t recall main plot points other than Hercules is more of a nomad/bounty hunter type with his band of misfits. The movie definitely has a feel reminiscent of old school “Conan The Barbarian”. Anyway i’m stoked for the movie and can’t wait to see it this summer! Check out the trailer below!

Mark Wahlberg has taken helm of the upcoming 4th installment in the Transformers franchise.

I think Mark Wahlberg actually helps the movie feel less adolescent and goofy. That and I’ve had just about enough of Shia after the first film. My favorite scene from the trailer is with out a doubt Optimus Prime letting out a monstrous roar… damn that was awesome! Can’t wait to see it!
