Goodbye Nintendo Power!

Yep you read it our favorite magazine growing up as a kid is going to be gone forever. On August 21, 2012, Nintendo announced that they would not be renewing their licensing agreement with Future Publishing, and that Nintendo Power would cease publication after 24 years.

Nintendo Power first was first published in August 1988 highlighting the NES game Super Mario Bros. 2. It was one of the longest-running video game magazines in the United States and Canada. The magazine first began as the Nintendo Fan Club News letter given out for free to subscribers of the Nintendo Fun Club. This all began thanks to the success and difficulty level of Nintendo’s “The Legend of Zelda“. The Nintendo Fan Club News letter ran seven issues before being discontinued and being renamed to the magazine we know today.

Due to the decline of print and more people aiming towards the internet for there information, its hard to stay alive in this sea of technology but we can’t blame the internet entirely because Nintendo Power will always stay alive through blogs, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. We will always remember Nintendo Power for bringing us such detailed and in-depth reviews, beautiful illustrations, pull out posters, free guides, and especially begging our mothers to buy a issue.
