ComicCon 2012: Capcom Announces Live Action ‘Street Fighter’ Series

“Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” has been announced via Comic Con press release from Capcom and Assassin’s Fist Limited, a live action show based on the video game publisher’s seminal fighting franchise.

Debuting sometime in 2013, the show comes from the minds behind the successful fan project “Street Fighter: Legacy” (screencap above), and will tell an origin story of sorts featuring the series’ iconic rivals Ryu and Ken. The show will revolve around the near-forsaken art of ‘Ansatsuken’ (“Assassin’s Fist”) practiced by the two, and its dark legacy as epitomized by its earlier practitioners Gouken and Akuma.

“Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist”will be what fans have been waiting for. ‘Legacy’ was a taster; a glimpse of what a live-action Street Fighter should be,” espoused Joey Ansah, co-writer of the new series and the actor behind Ken in ‘Legacy’, “This takes the story right back to the start – the origins and motivations of Ryu, Ken, Gouken and Akuma. This will become the definitive back-story from which further epic adventures will follow.”

Ansah continued, “Our priority is to stay true to the appearance, fighting techniques and canon of the Street Fighter game. At the same time we’ve managed to make this an emotion and character driven story, which will surprise viewers who might just be expecting a super faithful fight fest!.”

“Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” is being produced by Jacqueline Quella, of “Tobe Hooper’s The Toolbox Murders” fame. No word yet on a release plan or expected episode run-time (beyond being a “feature length” series).
