Police said that it all started when a couple (Chad and Nichole Oulson, pictured) were sitting in the theater, where Chad was texting on his cell phone during the previews. Despite the fact that the film has yet to start playing, a 71-year-old man named Curtis Reeves sitting behind them asked Chad to put his phone away. When Chad refused, stating that he was texting his 3-year-old daughter, Curtis stormed out of the theater.
When he returned, Chad asked him if he went to tell on him to the theater manager. The two men immediately got into an argument, which ended when Reeves pulled out a gun and shot Chad and his wife.
A brave off-duty deputy, who was in the theater, jumped on Curtis and quickly subdued him. He took possession of the gun and held him until police arrived. Two nurses, who were also in the audience, tried to help Chad, but his wound was too serious.
Chad was shot in the chest and died. His wife was shot in the hand, as she attempted to put her hand between the gun and her husband’s chest. Her wound is non-life threatening.
It turned out that Curtis is a police captain, who has been retired for twenty years. Police said that the two men didn’t know each other. Curtis was charged with second degree homicide.
