ComicCon 2012: *NEW Injustice: Gods Among Us Gameplay Trailer

A new trailer of Injustice: Gods Among Us was revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con 2012.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game featuring many characters from the DC Universe, including Batman, Flash, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The stages in the game feature destructible environments, multiple areas, and interactive objects the player can use to deal damage. For example, a player can use the Batmobile in the Batcave to launch rockets at the opponent. Ed Boon, creative director of NetherRealm Studios, stated that characters will fall into two categories – those who use brute strength and those who use gadgets. Power characters, such as Superman, can lift heavy objects from the environment and attack opponents with them. Gadget characters, such as Batman, are more agile, and can instead use these objects to move across the screen to dodge attacks and avoid being cornered by the enemy.

Henry Cavill, the actor who is portraying the DC superhero in Warner Bros’ Man of Steel, will make an appearance at the studio’s Hall H panel Saturday, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.

Whether Cavill would show up had been rumored but not confirmed. When the Comic-Con schedule was first officially revealed in late June, the only thing written about the Man of Steel panel were the words “Man of Steel.”

On Wednesday, Warners sent out a press release elaborating details of the participants of its panels forThe Hobbit (Ian McKellan, who plays Gandalf, is one of those attending) and Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi monster epic for Legendary.

But for Man of Steel, the studio said only that director Zack Snyder would be on hand and that footage would be shown; no one else was mentioned.

Other actors from the movie, such as Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe, are not expected to attend.

Fan Film Corner: "City of Scars"

“City of Scars” by Bat in the Sun productions, the makers of our previous selection “Patient J” is this week’s selection of Fan Film Corner

When the Joker escapes from Arkham and murders the parents of a young boy, Batman recalls the pain of losing his own parents as a child. He is pushed past his limits to the point where his focus becomes revenge on all who stand in his way, including many of Gotham’s underworld. Finally, Batman is forced to look at the psychological profile of his own mind and accept the consequences of his life to find resolve.

A child’s parents are brutally murdered, similar to what happened to Batman. The man behind it is the recently escaped Joker, who, along with Harley Quinn, are treated to one of their most hauntingly creepy depictions ever, and not only of this medium(counting The Dark Knight). Best moment of it? He’s sitting by a mirror, we don’t see his face, and he is mumbling incoherently to himself. You gotta see it to believe how effective it is(and note that this is currently available on YouTube). The performances in general are great, with only brief exceptions. Bruce Wayne’s alter ego has a rock-hard face and a spot-on voice, and his narrations has him questioning if he’s doing the right thing, something too many fan films forget. Unfortunately, those portions do suffer from occasional uninspired writing and bad reads. On the whole, the script is marvelous, if I can’t for the life of me make sense of the moral(best I can tell, it’s frankly a complete betrayal of the canon of the hero, and I can never stand that, if you want something different, make a new one, don’t change something established to fit what you want if it goes directly against it), and the ending is, as someone in this notes, anti-climactic.

The production values are quite high, with several large locations(a carnival, and a totally absolutely in no way not at all utterly gratuitous strip club with tons of cleavage, skin and butt shots), dozens of extras, and nearly flawless cinematography, make-up, props(the one obvious thing is the grappling gun, which might as well be neon colored), filming, editing and lighting. Action is sparse(I’d call this a thriller, genre-wise), well-choreographed, swift and really hits the mark(the hand-held camera is arguably excessive). The tone is relentlessly bleak throughout. There is a lot of disturbing content and a little bloody violence in this.

Being a fan of the Batman films and cartoons since I was a boy, I was happy to find a new chapter in the on-going saga. There is no sense comparing this to Nolan’s work, or indeed any of the films, and it has a very different feel to the cartoons.

I recommend this to comic book readers, as it will satisfy many of them(and it includes a few more well-known characters), without any of them being out of place, forced in or poor adaptations of the source material(suits, personalities and basic appearances).

The direction the whole is not bad and there are some great shots. However the steady-cam or perhaps just plain hand-held crowd scenes and other action scenes throughout are just a little to shaky.

The score was good, as was the grading of the film. I really liked the look they have gone for. The choice of materials for his suit harked back to the Adam West TV show, and after the slick carbon looking suit of TDK and BB is a little hard to deal with.

In conclusion most of the performances are fine and move what is an interesting story along nicely, and there are no major issues in my opinion, fans will enjoy it others might be more difficult to please.

Loopers, like himself, are used as foot soldiers and are well paid on the terms that all hostages must never escape, including Loopers themselves. YES! Those things we held in our hands as kids, full of color, dramatic story lines and mind blowing art called “Comics” have a day to call their own.

What is Free Comic Book Day? Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE* to anyone who comes into their stores. *Check with your local shop for their participation and rules.

The only reason why people across the world are flocking to theaters to see The Avengers this weekend is because… many years ago, back in 1963 there existed a comic book by the same name.

Comic books are as important to the arts as classical music, literature or paintings. And today you could argue that the only reason why Hollywood still manages to make any money is because of the stories found within these printed and bound works of art.

Comics are modern day Greek Mythology. They are older than books or even words all together. If you walk into any historical cave site today you are sure to find drawings of mass hunts or bonfires lining the inside walls. And to top it off Comics aren’t limited to words, they transcend language barriers. You could pick up a comic book printed in a different language (i.e. Manga) and still know whats going on.

Wether you’re into Sunday funnies, Graphic Novels, Manga, Comics or  Digital Comics, they all need to be appreciated by the young and old, the fanboy and the casual reader alike.

So take your kids, your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your friends, your nieces and nephews to a participating comic book shop in your area for a day of discovery (or in some cases re-discovery) of inspiring art and entertainment.

And if you’re on the fence about comics in general Free Comic Book Day is the perfect opportunity for you to dive in head first to see what it’s all about without it costing you a dime.

It’s been almost a year since Geoff Johns and Jim Lee took the comic book world by storm with the “New 52’s”.
As you can imagine, this bold move stirred things up a bit. Everything from the new costume designs to the whole idea of reseting the universe. I for one was all for it.
See, I always loved some of DC’s heroes but I never read many of there comics except for some of the Batman titles along with some graphic novels. But with the New 52’s it was easy for me to jump right into the DC Universe head first without feeling that weight of not knowing all the back stories and multi-verses and whatnot. And I’ve been a DC reader ever since. Now it’s just a question of finding time to read.

Here’s a little sneaky-poo to the additional material being put into this weeks JUSTICE LEAGUE VOLUME ONE – ORIGIN.

(Side Note) Jim Lee is by far one of my favorite artists since I was a wee-child collecting X-Men trading cards. The man is a surgeon with the pencil (he actually studied to be a doctor before he got into comics).
